This is a great BBQ joint, with gigantic soda glasses (which is important to me as I am an above average drinker). Also, they serve root beer, which for some reason is a rare thing these days. Also has a pretty good salad bar. The real gem here is the corn nuggets. Delicious deep-fried sweet cream corn bites that will make you cry a little bit.

The food at Sonny's is OK. The baby back ribs were over done. Very dried out. On the other hand the classic dry rub ribs were good. Cole slaw was at best average as were the beans. I wish we would have tried the salad bar it looked really good. Our server was wonderful. Chatty, prompt and not intrusive.

Given that Sonny's is a chain, they still often do BBQ quite well. They have a nice variety of sauces and their meats are top notch. However, given the poor customer service we received at this particular location, I would have to say that I while I recommend the food I do not recommend this location. Upon arrival, it took several minutes for anyone to recognize us. Next, after placing our orders I went to build my salad at the salad bar only to be told by our waitress that I would need to return to my seat for her to provide me with a salad plate (I still for cannot wrap my head around that she could not just hand me a plate while I was standing at the salad bar). In brief, all of the employees were focused on closing the place down for the night and not on serving the customers in the dining room. In the end the service was so bad that we just asked for to-go boxes for our food and left.

Not bad - our food was good and the prices were good. They had corn fritters for app's - which were also so yummy

The service is always great at the drive thru here. I've never had a problem with my food and they always bring the food out promptly.

Did the drive thru today.. Service was awfully slow from getting to the window(average 10-15mins wait time) then when you arrive at the window another 5-10mins AFTER paying. The server was confused with our order having to ask us a few times what we ordered.. When we told her couple times what it was.. then we got our food. Portion is the same like other Sonnys BBQ joints. Food taste the same but in GA you get a large drink and here you get medium size drink when you order The Big Deal. Service needs to improve at the drive thru. It is dreadfully LONG wait!

We want to thank the Sonny's BBQ owner for his hospitality and showing our active duty dependents a great time! NSA Panama City Teen Center wants to thank this specific Sonny's for their time and for spoiling us! We came in for a tour during our teen cooking camp over the summer. They treated us like royalty. The owner gave us a kitchen tour, let us try some food (ribs and brisket), told us how and why he wanted to start Sonny's franchise, and let us make our own redneck egg rolls. The teens were actually full when we left! There are various reviews posted, however one thing that cannot be denied and that is Sonny's great service to our active duty (there was a big table of active duty near us, which were spoiled too) and their dependents. We only apologize that it took us so long to write a review! We want to say a BIG THANK YOU!!

We are out-of-towners looking for authentic southern BBQ. As advertised we were hoping to find it here but we were hugely disappointed. Lack luster service and generic food. Ribs tasted store bought, not the slow cooked you would expect in an award winning restaurant. Green beans, baked beans and Mac and cheese were all disappointing. Pretty sure the green beans were frozen in from a bag and the baked beans came from a can. My wife ordered a sandwich which comes with no sides so she ordered the Mac and cheese side...it was smaller portion than what came with the kids meals. Sad that she paid extra for it. To top it all off the bathroom had mold on the ceiling tile...makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like. Don't waste your time or money here!!

Wasn't quite sure about BBQ not in our home state of TX but it was good! We really liked the sweet sauce and the sizzlin' sweet sauce. We ordered the family feast, great deal when you have a big family. I only gave it 4 stars because although our server Meaghan was AWESOME, there were a lot of unlucky people who had slow terrible service and she was having to pick up the slack for them. I would definitely go again the next time we're in town.

We had the "all you can eat" chicken, ribs & drink for two people - $33.95. The drinks are HUGE, the sides are OK but the "all you can eat" comes out as 5 ribs at a time & half a chicken. Then the server has to put in another order for you. The dry rub ribs were better than the wet. The dark meat chicken was fall off the bone good but the white meat was dry &needed lots of sauce. The service was OK.

We loved this place! There were 16 of us (7 kids.) They were very fast getting our food out which is important with that many kids. Our waitress, Jenae was great. They got really busy while we were here, but she continued to make sure we were well taken care of. (I know that isn't grammatically correct, but you know what I'm saying....) Our food was also very good. We split a sampler and had the redneck egg rolls. My favorite was the pulled pork and my boyfriend liked the brisket the best. We both agreed the sweet sauce was the best! I would definitely recommend this place if you are hungry!!!

Negatives:Slow service, brought dried out chicken, cold french fries, and old toast. Second attempt was better. Chicken was warm but overcooked and small in portion. Salad bar is decent, but overall my home state of Texas has better bbq. By the time we were leaving they were out of smoked turkey, pulled pork, and baby back ribs Please note this was on new years day, maybe too many employees called from partying the night before. .. .everyone had bad days, right?

This was a great spot to grab some quick BBQ. We had Charlie as our waiter and he did one of the best jobs serving us. Very polite as well, I hope the manager sees this review and gives him a pat on the back. Food was great I had the sliced pork and my wife had one of their pit master sandwiches "the bomb". Both were excellent. Mac and cheese was a little dry, sweet potato was awesome. Great sweet tea! Will eat here again before we leave.

Have been to this restaurant at least a dozen times in the past year ..we noticed this time that the portions for the sandwiches was a lot less food..the food was good, service was good ...but when we got the bill the prices were more than what our lunch menu said.. the lunch menu said $7.99 for the big deal special sandwich fries and a drink when we got our tickets they were $9.99. Our waitress said that it was a misprint on the menu..we said I'm sorry but we've been buying this for a while and the menu does say $7.99 we want you to honor that for $7.99.. we spoke with the manager and he got sooo rude and upset with us!! Insisting that it was a menu missprint! He put a military discount on our ticket and I told him I don't want a military discount, I'm not in the military ..I want you to charge me for what was on the lunch menu... he pretty much threatened to call the cops on my wife and i and throw us out of the store because I was telling other customers as I walked out the door to watch their pricing!! we will never return to this particular Sonny's location!! and for the manager named Chris, good luck in life and if Sony's corporate has any common sense they better address this manager before he runs off other customers!! because we will tell many many many other people about this incident!!

Stopped in while on vacation - drove all the way to PCB from Destin just for some good BBQ! The chicken was so moist and flavorful - even as all white meat, it was melt in your mouth good! Another in our party had ribs which looked amazing. The sides were huge and also tasty. All the sauces on the table were very good, too! Our service was decent, could have done better with keeping up on refills, but they were short staffed that day.

  • Andrew W.

This particular Sonny's was average BBQ. The meat was nice and smoky, but a bit dried out. The sides were just "ok" - below average baked beans and average mac 'n cheese. The 4 BBQ sauces provided (mild, sweet, sizzlin' sweet, and smokin') were pretty good (but I've had better). On a positive note, the salad bar offered all of the ingredients one could hope for - definitely a worthy feature. The service was rather average. The waitress was kept pretty busy and as such her visits to our table were very brief and sporadic. What Sonny's has going for it is their value - rather generous portions of everything for a very reasonable price.

  • Nancy T.

Ribs were good, but the slab was small. The sweet potato was cold and would not melt the butter. My husbands large BBQ had a hard bun, when you thumped it, it sounded like you were thumping wood. I will try this place again, but next time I will send everything back if it's cold or stale. And, I don't understand why you have to pay extra for a spoon full of slaw on your sandwich. We are from Memphis, and all BBQ's have slaw on them.

I regret the whole experience. Dried out, poor flavor, rude service. The McRib is by far better. Do not eat here.

  • Jason M.

Terrible food quality. The pulled chicken sandwich was dry. The French fries weren't done so we sent them back. They recooked the same fries and brought them to the table. Greasy and hard. Service was barely adequate.

  • Cliff M.

The service was the only good thing on this visit. The beef brisket was so dry you had to dust it. The sides did safe the meal that was it.

    (2)
  • Barry M.

This is an average barbeque restaurant. The salad bar is above average but the service was pretty slow. There are only four choices of barbeque sauces. Compared to Famous Daves, you will be disappointed. If there isn't any other barbeque joints around, it is reasonable if you get that hankerin for barbeque.. BTW, the cornbread is probably the best I have had.

  • Will R.

Food was good, prices ok, or server seemed very flustered and as a result somewhat unhelpful today. (other servers seemed better)

BBQ was good so was our service never ate there before will return should the mood for BBQ hit when we are there

  • Iryna M.

My boyfriend and I accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant a couple years ago when we were in town visiting from Atlanta. Two years later we were able to make it back to PCB now coming from Houston for a longer vacation, and on our list of things to do was to come back to this place. My bf L.O.V.E.'s their all-u-can-eat BBQ ribs, and my pulled beef brisket was pretty fantastic as well. The place stays busy, thus it feels rushed. This time the waitress dropped the check when we were still on our entrees, which coming from a restaurant environment, is not a good service thing. But, nonetheless, she always came around to check on us to see if my bf needed more ribs :). One star for the feel of rushment, the rest was great!
